This fly fishing trip is based inside the General Carrera Lake watershed in Chilean Patagonia- offering some of the world’s most remote, ‘off-the-grid’ angling opportunities for trophy brown and rainbow trout. General Carrera is Chile’s largest lake (700+ sq. miles) and is the second largest lake in South America, only smaller than Lago Titicaca in Bolivia. The trout that inhabit ‘Carrera’ grow big and thrive in the lake’s deep cold waters. Our operation targets these fish as they transition from the lake into the headwaters of the watershed to begin their spawning process.

Dry fly, nymph, and streamer strategies can all be used with success. Typically, stripping streamers with a single-hand rod or swinging streamers with a switch rod prove to be met with the most reward. Water conditions and sunlight can have an effect on the level of fish activity, and it is important that each angler understands that a good day can be made out of three or four fish ranging from 20 to 30 inches.

While this trip may be initially attractive, it should be reserved for those who wish to cover large amounts of water on foot over rugged terrain. Additionally, the techniques used to target these fish often require advanced angling experience, a conditioned casting arm, and the ability to navigate in and around boulders/pocket water.

Estancia Del Zorro
March 7 - 14 2020 (2 spots)
$4995.00

Chilean Patagonia's Estancia del Zorro is in the Coyhaique Alto mountain range on the Chilean-Argentine border, 23 miles from Coyhaique, Chile. The 15,000 acre Estancia rests in the habitat of the red fox (zorro), the namesake of the Estancia. An abundance of condors, ragles, a myriad of other birds, and unexplored brown trout entice flyfishers and bird watchers to follow the trail of the red fox. You and a knoledgeable, patient guide explore the holls, canyons, forests, mountains, pampas, and waters of the Estancia. Your guide helps you flyfish for brown trout on two rivers and on a 15 mile spring creek with browns up to an astonishing 12 pounds, all within the Estancia's private boundaries.

Estancia del Zorro, located in the Coyhaique Alto mountain range on the Chilean-Argentine border, 23 miles from the historic city of Coyhaique. Is a full service lodge where we can house up to twelve guests. A main Quincho or Great Room invites guests to relax, swap fish stories, and make plans for the next day's angling. Also located in the main building is the dining room where both breakfast and dinner will be served. Here guests prepare their individual streamside lunches and meet for social hour after fishing.

5 of 5 It exceeded every expectation that I had December 6, 2018
Reviewer: Mike C from Pittsburgh Pa
In all seriousness I would go every year without a doubt if I didn’t have young children.  I will be doing as often as I can but guessing next trip would be in 2-4 years.  Will do this trip even more once my kids are older.

The trip could not have been better.  The accommodations were excellent and the people were great.  It exceeded every expectation that I had and I had very high expectations.  I honestly can’t think of one negative thing to say about the trip and only have the highest compliments for everything they do.  The fishing of course was outstanding as well.  There was a great variety of fishing and knowledgeable guides put us on fish and helped my dad and brothers immensely (rookie fly anglers).  They had patience and were able to really get them into the sport.
